President of Parliament participates in several United Nations General Assembly 80 Sessions

The President of Parliament, the Hon. Mrs. Sarah A. Wescot-Williams, actively participated in several sessions of the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), held in New York, United States.
 
On Monday, September 22, 2025, Mrs. Wescot-Williams attended the 2025 United Nations Day of Peace – First Ladies Becoming Actions for Peace: Ambition for Women as Key Players in Promoting Sustainable Development, a high-level session of UNGA 80. The program featured a wide range of speakers discussing topics including concrete actions to promote peace amid global turbulence, sustainability and human rights, financing for women, community service, peaceful dialogue, and the SDG 16 Nigeria Shadow Report 2025.
 
The event was declared formally open with a keynote address by H.E. Mrs. Ann Marie Davis, Spouse of the Prime Minister and First Lady of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, who also chairs the Gender Priority Strategy.
 
The Hon. President of Parliament, Mrs. Wescot-Williams, also presented on the topic Women in Leadership and their Role as Key Players in Promoting peace, making a call for consciousness of always asking yourself, regardless of your own circumstances, triumphs, and challenges, what is the next woman, girl, or child facing.
 
The session also included the FOWPAL Bell Ceremony, during which First Ladies and distinguished participants made a Peace Wish and rang the Peace Bell. The President of Parliament joined this ceremony, shared her Peace Wish, rang the Peace Bell, and witnessed the presentation of the FOWPAL Peace Awards.
 
On Tuesday, September 23, 2025, the President, Mrs. Sarah A. Wescot-Williams, attended and presented at the UNGA 80 Session Side Event – Better Together: A luncheon to commemorate the Pact for Sustainable Development Goals and the Commissioning of Science-Based Solutions for Clean Water and Sanitation, at the United Nations Headquarters, New York, United States.
 
The President was a featured speaker, addressing the topics of women, women in leadership, community building, collaboration, and the management of water resources. Other presenters spoke on setting the pace for Global Transformation and Technology Innovation, as well as Better Together for the Commemoration of the Pact for Sustainable Development. Besides Ministers and Members of Parliament of African countries, present at the Commissioning of the Science-Based Solution for Water and Sanitation Project: Unlocking Africa’s Potential for Sustainable Water and Sanitation for All, were the Minister of Foreign Affairs of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Antigua and Barbuda, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of St. Kitts and Nevis.
Additionally, participants witnessed the unveiling and commissioning of the Science-Based Solutions for the Pact for Water and Sanitation in Africa.
